It is an ideal course for anyone who would enjoy recording, sequencing and composing music, as well as analysing the impact that technology has had throughout the history of popular music. Students learn the tools and techniques to capture, edit, process and mix an audio recording. One piece is chosen from a list of ten songs and a minimum of five compulsory instruments plus two additional instruments are recorded. When composing, students create a piece chosen from a set of briefs and learn how to edit, manipulate and structure sounds along the way. One composition is chosen from three briefs and must contain synthesis and sampling/audio manipulation and creative effects. Students have access to the latest Apple iMac computers and software including Logic Pro X and also the recording studio in the music school, equipped with everything necessary to make high quality recordings.
To embark on A-levels or a BTEC pupils should have five grades 6 (b) in GCSE/IGCSE and at least grade 4 (OR C) in Mathematics and English in exceptional circumstances the Head Master may allow pupils to join the sixth form without achieving this hurdle as long as motivation can be guaranteed. Such an arrangement be reviewed termly. We strongly recommend pupils start A-levels having achieved a grade 7(or A) GCSE/IGCSE in each of the subjects they have chosen, or in subjects similar to those they have chosen. In addition, pupils should not start Mathematics or a Science A-level Without having achieved a grade 7(or A) in Mathematics
