Physicists try to make sense of the Universe around them through investigation and analysis of derived equations. The Sixth Form courses all offer a well-balanced mix of opportunities to consider everyday phenomena, grapple with the sub-atomic world and consider the grander scales of our galaxy; Physics truly is all-encompassing. The subject offers moments of awe whilst simultaneously building, within its students, the key analytical skills so desired by Industry and Universities alike. Students will study: In lower sixth: • Particles and radiation • Waves • Mechanics and Materials • Electricity Upper Sixth: • Further Mechanics • Thermal Physics • Fields and their consequences • Nuclear Physics In addition, both of the following option topics will be taught: • Astrophysics • Engineering Physics Students choose which option topic they wish to be examined in their Mock. They will then sit this option paper in the public examinations at the end of the course.
7 in GCSE Mathematics, 8 in GCSE Physics, or 8 8 in the Physics part of Science Double Award. It is usual for A-level physics students to study A-level mathematics alongside.
3 external written examinations: • Paper 1 - 34% (2 hours) • Paper 2 - 34% (2 hours) • Paper 3 - 32% (2 hours)
