Course summary

History at post-16 teaches students to never to accept the written or spoken word at face value; to discriminate between fact and fiction and to understand that all human concerns are complex and should be judged with care, and without emotion. These are valuable skills to take into the workplace and life in general. UNITS OF STUDY: • England, 1509-1603: Authority, Nation and Religion. (Paper 1) • Luther and the German Reformation, c 1515-55. (Paper 2) • The witch craze in Britain, Europe and North America, c 1580-1750. (Paper 3) • Coursework: An internally assessed and externally moderated piece of work that allows students to select and investigate a historical controversy of their choice. An example might be: To what extent was German militarism responsible for the outbreak of the First World War?
