The A Level course enables the girls to develop an advanced knowledge and understanding of the French language, the culture of France and other Francophone countries, as well as practical and valuable language and transferable study skills. We study one film and one literary text, together with authentic source materials from the French-speaking world. We focus on spontaneity and grammar, as well as independent and creative application of knowledge. The students are encouraged to develop their ideas, use language to persuade and analyse, and give critical responses in their writing and speaking. In addition to their timetabled lessons, the students enjoy weekly one-to-one sessions with our assistant.
Conditional offers are made in early December. Students are expected to achieve a minimum of eight GCSE passes with at least seven at Grade 7 or above. We also expect the students to obtain a Grade 7 or above in those subjects they wish to study in Sixth Form.
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing – 2 hours 30 minutes – 50% of qualification Paper 2: Writing – 2 hours – 20% of qualification Paper 3: Speaking – 21-23 minutes – 30% of qualification
