Course summary

Higher level History covers major trends in Europe and the Middle East from the mid 19th century. In the 20th century, the course extends to other parts of the world to avoid a Eurocentric view. One of the major themes is the Arab-Israeli conflict, which helps the student better understand the tensions in the world today. Higher and Standard level students study three twentieth century world topics: » the causes, practices and effects of war, » origins and development of authoritarian and single-party states, and » the Cold War
