Course summary

Physical Education addresses the development of the holistic person. The course is invaluable for pupils wishing to study a sport related area up to degree level. However, pupils who show aptitude and interest for Physical Education could use the subject for matriculation as an undergraduate in an unrelated subject area. The academic content of the course is challenging yet accessible. It comprises the following four components. Firstly the Physiological factors affecting performance, including applied anatomy, exercise physiology and applied bio-mechanics (the latter enables the principles of physics to be addressed in a practical format during realistic sporting situations).

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement is three subjects in Grade 6 and three in Grade 7, or equivalent, at GCSE (including Mathematics and English). It is highly desirable to have a Grade 7, 8 or 9 in the subjects to be taken at Sixth Form and, in practice, most successful candidates will have an 8 or 9 or equivalent in most subjects.
