Course summary

A high-quality Computer Science education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Underrepresented in this field, we aim to inspire our girls to make up the next generation of Computer Scientists. The subject has deep links with mathematics, science design and technology, providing insights into both natural and artificial systems. Our curriculum is challenging and exciting, enabling pupils to explore a plethora of programming languages, all delivered in our newly renovated and custom-built computer suites by a faculty that includes seasoned industry veterans and Computer Science graduates. The OCR Computer Science A level builds on the foundations of GCSE, allowing pupils to explore more complex theories, often via the medium of new and exciting programming languages that they will not have used before.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to study A levels at Bromley High School must achieve Grade 7’s or above at GCSE in subjects that they intend to study at A level.

How you'll be assessed

The course is assessed through both a written and programming exam but also gives a unique opportunity for pupils to develop their solutions to real-world problems. The possibilities here are limitless, with pupils choosing to make games, scientific models, retail systems and more. With programming now being a part of many disciplines, the skills learned here will be valuable for life.
