This course introduces students to a variety of experiences that explore a range of fine art media, processes and techniques using both traditional and new media. These are complemented by the study of relevant images and artifacts from European and nonEuropean examples. Students’ responses will be shown through practical and critical activities that demonstrate their understanding of different styles, genres and traditions. Drawing is an integral part of the course and students use sketchbooks to underpin their work. The course includes workshops and visits to galleries and museums. A life class is held once a week after school and all students attend.
Drawing plays a key role in this course and the ideal student is one who enjoys exploring the creative use of materials and putting their feelings, ideas and emotions into the interpretation of the set themes. Fine Art can be successfully combined with other A Level subjects and gives students the ability to express themselves visually whilst developing the analytical skills to access the world around them. Art Grade 6
