Course summary

This course is similar to A Level PE, but offers more of a vocational approach. Students who study CTEC Sport at A Level go on to do Sports Coaching, Physical Education, Sports Marketing or Sports Business at University. They have the opportunity to follow careers in Sports Therapy, Sports Psychology, Teaching/Coaching, Marketing, Sports Development, Personal Training and Sports Analysis. The course consists of both internally and externally examined units. Students will complete exams in Unit 1 (Body systems) and Unit 3 (Sports organisation). Students will then complete coursework for Unit 2 (sports coaching), Unit 5 (Performance Analysis) and Unit 18 (Practical performance in sport). The coursework units will require them to deliver a 6-week block of coaching, conduct interviews and presentations, write essays and analyse performance in order to give feedback.

Entry requirements

Students should be interested in the application of anatomy and physiology to physical activity and demonstrate a willingness to develop their coaching of peers. They should be able to work independently and meet coursework deadlines and communicate clearly, verbally and in writing.
