Course summary

Lessons will enhance linguistic skills and promote and develop capacity for critical thinking on the basis of knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the country or countries where the language is spoken. We will also work on developing control of the language system to convey meaning, using spoken and written skills, including an extended range of vocabulary, for both practical and intellectual purposes as increasingly confident, accurate and independent users of the language.

How you'll be assessed

● Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation (2 hours). Students will be assessed on their understanding of spoken and written French from a variety of types of authentic texts and listening material, as well as their ability to translate accurately from French into English. ● Paper 2: Written response to works and translation (2 hours 40 minutes). Students must study two discrete French works: either two literary texts, or one literary text and one film. ● Paper 3: Speaking (21-23 minutes). Task 1 (discussion on a Theme), Task 2 (presentation and discussion on student’s independent research project)
