Entry requirements

Each year, we are delighted to welcome new students into our Sixth Form. All prospective Sixth Form students from other schools can enjoy a taster day at Stafford Grammar School and have an interview with the Head of Sixth Form. Offers of entry into the Sixth Form are then conditional upon GCSE results. A place in the Sixth Form is conditional upon students gaining at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or equivalent, including at least a grade 4 in Mathematics and English Language. Often there will be a requirement of the minimum of a grade 6 or equivalent for those subjects that the student wishes to study at AS level. For AS Mathematics, students must have followed the Higher Tier course and gained at least a grade 7 or equivalent. Any offer is also conditional upon a successful application including an interview and a satisfactory reference from the student’s current school. Almost everyone in the Lower Sixth Form studies four AS levels and the majority go on to study three A-level courses. Some students do continue with four A-levels, but this is dependent on academic and career aims.
