Course summary

Physical Education is studied though a range of different contexts and the impact it has on our everyday lives. You will learn the reasons why we do things and why some people out-perform others, mentally and physically. You will also delve into the ethical considerations behind the use of drugs and the influence that modern technology is having in, and on, physical activity and sport. Students who study PE at A Level go on to do Physiotherapy, Physical Education, Sports Science or Sports Business at University. They have the opportunity to follow careers in Sports Therapy, Sports Psychology, Teaching/Coaching, Marketing, Sports Development, Personal Training and Sports Analysis. This course will involve the study of anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. They will investigate psychological factors that affect performance and contemporary factors of sport performance. Not only will you have the chance to improve your performance through the application of academic study theory, you will also have the chance to be assessed in sport through the non-exam assessment component.

Entry requirements

Students should have an interest in the application of scientific, psychological and socio-cultural theory to physical activity. They need to have a commitment to improving their sporting performance in one sport. It is expected that those undertaking the subject regularly participate at a good level on a weekly basis.
