Because individual students have different needs, interests and abilities, there are two different courses in mathematics. Each course can be studied at Higher or Standard level. Students will need to think carefully about which option they choose. Their choice may be dependent on their future university and career interests, which other subjects they are studying at Higher Level, and possibly which country they wish to study in after leaving Windermere. Students are advised to take Mathematics Analysis at Higher Level if they have achieved a grade 8 or 9 at IGCSE, and are interested in a Mathematics based course at university, such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science. Students are advised to take Mathematics Applications at Higher Level if they have achieved a grade 8 or 9 at IGCSE, and their other Higher Level subjects centre around Biology, Humanities subjects, Arts or Languages. Other students will generally be advised to take Mathematics Applications at Standard Level.
The entry guideline for Year 12 to join Sixth Form to study the Diploma Programme is at least five grade 4s or above in the GCSE examinations, including a minimum of grade 4 in both English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject. The entry guideline for Year 12 to join Sixth Form to study the Career-related Programme is at least four grade 4s or above in the GCSE examinations, including a minimum of grade 4 in both English Language and Mathematics. A grade four in Business GCSE is desirable but not essential.
