Course summary

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) project is a student-driven qualification, giving them the freedom and responsibility to select topics and projects they are interested in. When completing a project qualification, students follow a clearly structured process: they plan, research their topic and create a product. The product of their project can be in one of two formats: • a research-based written report • an artefact* (eg a piece of art, a computer game, a realised design) (*supported by a written report). This work is all recorded in their Production Log and, finally, students deliver a presentation. During the process, they develop as independent, reflective learners and acquire knowledge and transferable skills that are invaluable for further study and the workplace.

Entry requirements

Our Sixth Form entry also requires an interview with the Heads of Sixth Form, after which a conditional offer will be made and will be dependent upon agreed GCSE grade requirements. Our standard requirement is Grade 6 or above in the chosen A-Level subjects (or relevant subject), Grade 5 or above in English and Maths and Grade 4 or above in non-related GCSE subjects.

How you'll be assessed

Students are assessed on the process of their project and on the product itself. At the end of the process, the candidate will have: 1. Completed the AQA Production Log 2. Produced a written report (5,000 words or 1,000 words depending on whether they have produced an artefact) 3. Presented their project and findings to an audience
