A Level PE is an academically rigourous and stimulating course for those interested in both sports performance and bodily adaptations to exercise. It is a very well-rounded course that also encapsulates the sociological and psychological concepts involved in contemporary issues, such as drug taking and the impact of sports agents and sponsorship.
Acceptance into the Sixth Form is conditional upon the applicant’s meeting the entrance requirements of the School. For those taking GCSE or IGCSE, the expectation is for a minimum of six 9-4 grades (equivalent to A* – C in the old grading system) including Mathematics and English, preferably with at least a grade 6/7 in the subjects to be studied at A-level. Under normal circumstances, a place will be offered following an interview and the receipt of a satisfactory report from the Head of the applicant’s present school.
Pupils will be assessed in two theory papers (35% each) as well as a practical performance (30%). The practical performance incorporates the Analysis of Performance assessment as well as physical performance levels.
