The study of Physical Education takes students well beyond the sports they currently personally play and excel in to consider all aspects of sport from the perspectives of both the participant and society. Issues of anatomy, coaching, leadership, motivation and psychology as well as social and cultural attitudes to sport and how marketing occurs are studied and reflected upon.
For automatic entry into the Sixth Form a minimum of eight grade Bs (6 point average) at IGCSE/GCSE is required. If students fall short of this mark by gaining some C grades, an equivalent number of higher grades in other subjects may be acceptable. Most of our pupils work towards achieving the IB Diploma or three A Level subjects. Slightly above the eight B grade hurdle and certainly below it, a different programme of study may be more appropriate and each case will be considered individually. Ideally pupils will gain at least a grade A (7 points) at IGCSE/GCSE in a subject (or a related subject) they wish to study at IB Higher Level or for A Level, and certainly they should not score less than a B grade. For Mathematics, Modern Foreign Languages and the Sciences, A grades (7 points) at GCSE or IGCSE are expected.
