When you study A Level Art and Design you learn to work both independently and collaboratively, you also gain experience in time management. Studying Art and Design, teaches determination and resilience as well as building confidence in a student's individual approach. Lessons in Studio include teaching functional and useful skills that prepare students for future careers in the arts as well as allowing them to express their thoughts and realise their intentions through a wide range of media. Refinement of processes is fundamental to success. After an initial foundation, students specialise in a chosen media to aid this refinement. Studio forges links with arts organisations and creative practitioners, companies, and agencies. Visits and workshops are organised which provide inspiring opportunities for students to see what it’s like to ‘do’ a particular job and hear how artists and designers got where they are. Gallery Visits to London as well as overseas trips to places such as New York, LA and Europe form part of the course. Trips with other departments encourage cross-curricular collaboration which is seen as advantageous when studying art and Design.
Pupils are expected to have taken Art and Design (including Textile Design) at GCSE level, or, if they do not have a GCSE then pupils in exceptional circumstances should be able to prove ambitious standards of creativity through evidence in a portfolio.
