The Economics department attempts to provide a framework to help you make sense of news stories, political decisions and even your own choices made on a daily basis. You will learn to analyse, explain and weigh up the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of individuals, businesses and government. It is not an easy option because you will need very strong Maths skills and be comfortable writing essays. Strong GCSE grades in both Maths and English are essential prior to undertaking the course.
Successful 16+ candidates will usually receive an offer of a place conditional on their performance at the assessment day. The school expects applicants for the Sixth Form to achieve a grade 7 (A) or higher in the subjects they wish to study at A Level and an overall grade profile of at least four grade 7s (A) and no other grades lower than a 6 (B) at GCSE. Candidates should also have demonstrated an excellent attitude to work, and a willingness to contribute to the life of the school.
