Sackville School follows the innovative AQA Psychology specification. Students will explore a range of scientific research into human behaviour. They will also put their own research skills into practice, conducting a variety of studies and work towards a practical understanding of the subject. This understanding is finally assessed with three exam papers at the end of Year 13. The A-Level Psychology course is linear, consisting of three 2 hour exams. Year 12 topics – Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology, Approaches and Research methods. Year 13 topics – Biopsychology, Stress, Relationships, Aggression and Debates.
Students who wish to study Psychology may benefit from having studied Psychology at GCSE, however this is not essential and a strong interest in the subject area and willingness to learn are essential. Grade 5s and above in GCSE Biology are essential.
