During the A Level German course you will develop an understanding of Germanic culture in a variety of contexts and learn to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in German for a range of purposes. You will be able to express facts and ideas and present explanations, opinions and information in German. In studying German you will improve your employment possibilities and enhance your travel experiences.
Successful 16+ candidates will usually receive an offer of a place conditional on their performance at the assessment day. The school expects applicants for the Sixth Form to achieve a grade 7 (A) or higher in the subjects they wish to study at A Level and an overall grade profile of at least four grade 7s (A) and no other grades lower than a 6 (B) at GCSE. Candidates should also have demonstrated an excellent attitude to work, and a willingness to contribute to the life of the school. Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing 2 hours and 30 minutes 50% of the qualification Listening and responding Reading and responding Translation into and from German. Paper 2: Writing 2 hours 20% of the qualification Written response to a text (300 words) Written response to a film (300 words). Paper 3: Speaking Internally conducted and externally assessed 21-23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time). 30% of the qualification. Part 1: discussion on a sub-theme of a stimulus card. Part 2: presentation and discussion of the student’s individual research project.
