This course is an industry standard qualification and is widely respected by and accepted at all universities that accept vocational qualifications in the UK. The Cambridge Technical - explained The qualification is split into five levels, each carrying equivalent UCAS points to A Levels: • Certificate (equivalent to half an A Level) • Extended Certificate (equivalent to one A Level) • Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels) • Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels) • Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A Levels) The Foundation Diploma enables pupils to finish the course with 1.5 times the UCAS points of a normal A Level and it is all delivered in the same allocated timetable slot as one A Level. This potentially gives pupils the time to complete two other A levels and leave Upper Sixth with the equivalent of 3.5 A Levels.
No prior skill or experience in Performing Arts is necessary for this course – simply a passion for live performance and a strong commitment to rehearsals. As there are a number of written tasks required for the assessment of the qualification, a good command of the written word is desirable.
Pupils following the Foundation Diploma firstly choose a pathway - Drama, Dance, Music, or Production - and then complete the following: All pathways (compulsory units for all pupils): • Unit 1: Preparing to Work in the Performing Arts Industry (controlled assessment – one presentation to camera (performance or seminar), one filmed interview and one essay) • Unit 2: Response to A Commissioning Brief (controlled assessment - one report project) • Unit 3: Influential Practitioners (controlled assessment - one presentation, two performances (or practical skill demonstration) and one essay)
