Course summary

Studying Drama in the Sixth Form as one of your subjects will help develop your creative, analytical and communication skills. You will not only improve your acting, directing and design skills but will also develop teamwork, negotiation and management skills, preparing you for further education and beyond. The close literary analysis of the set play texts will aid you in exploring different interpretations of characters and themes, considering how these can be portrayed differently on stage. You will also learn an appreciation of the social, and historical context of when these texts were written, helping you to Identify important nuances in the scripts. In the Soth Form, Drama pupils will be encouraged and taught to develop and apply an informed, analytical framework for making, performing, interpreting and understanding theatre. The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report predicts that creativity, Innovation and Ideation will be key skills for the workforce of the future, as more tasks become automated. When business leaders across the world were surveyed, they voted creativity as the most important workplace capability to help their businesses survive and grow. This means that these so-called 'soft skills", which sit alongside analytical thinking and problem-solving, are becoming increasingly important for jobs and the study of creative subjects, like Drama, is particularly relevant and important. During the course, Sixth Form students will be taken to the theatre to see different plays, experience different dramatic styles and analyse performances for their own work.
