Mathematics is a core subject in the curriculum and Sedbergh's facilities and teaching team provide an ideal learning environment for all pupils. The Mathematics Department occupies the upper floor of a purpose-built modern building close to the centre of the School campus. At the core lies a well-stocked library covering most aspects of mathematics. Classrooms are networked to the school's intranet and have multi-media projectors and screens. There are around 35-40 pupils in every year group who study A level Maths. We follow the Edexcel A-level Maths and Further Maths syllabuses. The A level consists of 3 exams: two papers in Pure Maths and one in applied Maths and these are taken at the end of the course. Further Maths is 3 more exams consisting of Further Pure Maths, Further Mechanics and Decision Maths. These are also taken at the end of the course.
Assessment for entry into Year 12 (6th Form), is subject to a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above – with higher Grades being required to facilitate the taking of A Levels in certain subjects
