
In Year 12 the following topics are researched: Physiological factors affecting Performance: Applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Psychological and socio-cultural themes in PE: Skill acquisition, sports psychology and sport and society. Performance in PE: Performance or coaching of an activity (taken from an approved list in accordance with OCR). In Year 13 the following topics are researched: Physiological factors affecting performance: Applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Psychological factors affecting performance: Skill acquisition and sports psychology. Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport: Sport and society, contemporary issues in physical activity and sport. Performance in PE: Performance or coaching, evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement.
You are expected to have successfully completed a GCSE in Physical Education but this would not exclude candidates who had not done so. However, the specifications have been designed to provide progression by building on the knowledge, understanding and skills studied at Key Stage 4. Most candidates will normally have achieved at least the equivalent of GCSE Grade 6 in PE or in dual Sciences before taking this course.
Candidates sit exams at the end of two years of study.
