The A Level English Literature course comprises the close study of a wide range of literary texts. Successful candidates usually enjoy reading sophisticated literature and discussing their ideas with others. They are likely to have a high grade in English Language at either IGCSE or GCSE and a further high grade in English Literature. Candidates at Stowe are entered for the linear Edexcel A Level (9ETO) qualification in English Literature. We start the year with an overview of Pre‐Victorian literature in order to establish an understanding of literary contexts and hone the skills of close reading and analysis.
