A Level French gives learners the opportunity to develop and deepen their awareness and understanding of the language as well as to increase their knowledge of the French speaking world through the study of the language in its cultural, literary and social context. The level of language required at A Level is different from GCSE as it is more sophisticated, thus allowing for greater depth and subtlety to language. As at GCSE, the four skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are assessed. Language work includes areas of study that are contemporary, age‐appropriate and engaging. These should inspire pupils to take part in French discussions. One of the most important aspects of this course is the opportunity to develop opinions and defend points of view in the target language.
