This course develops in-depth knowledge of foreign languages and the communities in which they are spoken. Authentic resources such as film, documentaries, television clips and articles are used to explore a range of topics from the point of view of the target-language culture. A-level linguists will also study a film and a literary text, or two literary texts, in detail. Lessons are conducted in the target language and pupils develop a high level of oral fluency as they learn to analyse materials, express complex opinions, justify ideas, compare points of view and debate responses to contemporary and historical issues.
Grade A (minimum) at GCSE / IGCSE A genuine passion for languages and foreign culture Completion of a course in a country where the target language is spoken during the lower 6th year.
Final examinations will assess reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. Pupils will also have to translate from and into the target language and produce a written analysis of a film or book
