Course summary

Chemistry is often referred to as the central science because it joins together physics and mathematics, and biology. Chemistry is an incredibly fascinating field of study; it plays a role in everyone’s lives and touches almost every aspect of our existence in some way. Chemistry is essential for meeting our basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health, energy, and water. Chemical technologies enrich our quality of life in numerous ways by providing new solutions to problems in health, materials, and energy usage. Studying Chemistry is useful in preparing us for the real world. Chemistry is often referred to as the central science because it links Physics, Mathematics, and Biology. In the Lower 6th students study Le Chatelier’s principle, Redox equations and Kinetics, alongside organic and inorganic chemistry. In the Upper 6th you will develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of the Transition Metals, Optical Isomerism, Electrode Potentials and Electrochemical Cells. Mathematics is a key component of the course and enables students to translate qualitative understanding to quantitative analysis. Applying mathematical skills in a chemistry context will account for at least 20% of the A level grade.
