This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the scientific aspects of food science and nutrition and the wider implications of diet on our health and well-being. You will learn how to plan to meet nutritional needs, to develop practical food production skills, and to ensure food is safe to eat. You will also learn how to solve food production problems through experimental approaches, and about current issues in consumer food choice. Using nutritional theory to support practical activities, you will research the latest information and apply that theory to solve realistic dietary and food safety issues. With a combination of theory and practical lessons, you’ll work in our fully-equipped Food and Nutrition centre, in addition to computer-based work in our ICT suite, and on a variety of field study trips.
Pupils entering the sixth form are expected to have obtained ‘C’ grades in most core subjects and at least a grade B in their chosen A Level subjects. They will be expected to be able to cope with the demands of A Level courses in at least three subjects. Some A Level courses require higher GCSE grades, specific details on request from the Marketing and Admissions Team.
