In the current international economic climate, people with languages are increasingly in demand; in fact, there are limitless opportunities open to you if you have language skills. The study of a modern foreign language at A-level will give you an edge in virtually any career, regardless of whether you consider yourself a language specialist or not. All three modern foreign languages aim to offer trips abroad in the Sixth Form and in previous years, students have taken part in cultural trips to Berlin, the French Riviera and Seville. Cultural opportunities are offered outside the classroom and students are encouraged to watch foreign films, visit art exhibitions and attend talks and events at each of the languages’ respective cultural institutes in London.
For automatic entry into A-level Maths, a grade 8 at GCSE is required. For automatic entry on A-level Science courses, a grade 8 in GCSE Maths and the relevant Science subject is required. Those who don’t achieve a grade 8 may only be permitted onto their chosen courses after discussion with a member of SLT. For students to gain automatic entry into any other A-level subjects, they are required to achieve at least a grade 7 at GCSE in the relevant subject. For subjects which are new at A-level, the following GCSE grades will be used as the best indicators for potential success in the subject and therefore are required for automatic entry:
