History is a fascinating subject, one which will help you to understand how the modern world came about. It is a subject in which you will have to solve challenging questions and be able to argue your viewpoint effectively, selecting accurate and relevant information. A Level specifications require pupils to study: • Topics from a chronological range of at least 200 years. • A substantial (a minimum of 20 per cent) and coherent element of British history and/or the history of England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales. • Change and/or development over a period of time sufficient to demonstrate understanding of the process of change, both long term (normally at least 100 years) and short term.
Pupils wishing to pursue A Level History should ideally have a Grade 6 in GCSE History. Alternatively, a Grade 6 in their GCSE English examinations would be a suitable entry requirement.
