Course summary

The French IGCSE course aims to help pupils make significant progress towards becoming a specialist in the language, the culture of France and the French-speaking world. Pupils will develop their language skills in three key areas: grammatical awareness, comprehension and communication. As a result, they will become capable of understanding the language in a variety of registers as well as writing and speaking it accurately and increasingly fluently. The development of their language skills will take place within a framework of topics and issues of interest. Pupils will also be strongly encouraged to participate in an exchange visit to France, which will further enhance their language skills.

Entry requirements

To join our Sixth Form we ask for nine GCSEs including Mathematics and English, with a minimum Grade 7 in the subjects that you wish to study, or in a related subject where the proposed course is in a new subject.

How you'll be assessed

The first round assessment is a 90-minute, bespoke computer based test. The exam includes verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English and maths questions. The assessment will take place on the school premises. Pupils who are successful in round one are called back for interview. Applicants are not required to bring books, projects or other work with them to interview. We ask one or both of an applicant’s parents or guardians to attend at this time.
