Chemistry offers the opportunity to develop highly valuable transferable skills. For those who already have a career in mind, then Chemistry may be a prerequisite for your chosen degree course, for example, veterinary science or medical sciences. The theory will be delivered by two members of staff with the practical skills being covered during regular practical work interspersed within the theory lessons. Pupils explore the fundamental principles that form the basis of chemistry such as atomic structure, bonding, periodicity and an introduction to organic chemistry. Pupils also look at the applications of these principles.
It is expected that pupils who start the course will have at least a Grade 7 or above in GCSE Chemistry or 7-7 in combined Science, and a Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
