Our EPQ programme is studied by all A-Level and BTEC students at Brentwood School. Students who complete the EPQ and have moved on to higher education and the workplace have found it much easier to bridge the gap in skills. By doing the EPQ, students become used to independent study, being self-motivated and develop confidence in their own ability and the skills they possess. • The EPQ is an extended project based on a topic that genuinely interests students. • The topic is their choice - but must be outside the syllabus of KS5 subjects studied. • It is a substantial piece of independent work: 120 hours for the whole project. • The EPQ is a Level 3 qualification, represents half an A level & attracts UCAS points/discounted offers across a multitude of universities. Students will study the following skills and receive taught sessions to develop each skill: • Planning • Time management/ organisation • Researching • Referencing • Analysis and synthesis • Problem solving • Essay writing • Proofreading • Presentation skills • Ongoing reflection • Evaluation
English language ability at CEFR C1 level.
Students submit their whole project for marking, this includes all work that has gone into: planning, researching, referencing, writing and adjusting the essay/associated resources, as well as the presentations. The project is 100% coursework, marked out of 60 marks and broken down into four key assessment objectives: o AO1: Manage - 12 marks o AO2: Use resources - 12 marks o AO3: Develop and realise - 24 marks o AO4 Review - 12 marks
