Course summary

Do you love solving problems? Do you want to learn how to think analytically, do you enjoy manipulating algebraic expressions and visualising geometrical representations? The A Level Maths course will provide you with the skills needed for thinking logically and solving complex problems. At the same time, it will give you a mathematical understanding of the concepts underpinning scientific knowledge and progress. We use analysis of real data to apply statistical models as well as driving cars to explore the mechanics models we look at. Primarily the skills to think logically and solve complex problems. However, the nuts and bolts of the course include calculus, trigonometry, geometry, algebra, vectors, statistics and mechanics.

Entry requirements

All offers are then subject to candidates achieving a minimum of seven GCSE Grades 9 - 4 (or equivalent), together with appropriate facilitating grades in subjects related to their choice of A level subjects (see 6th Form prospectus for more information). A grade 7 at IGCSE or equivalent.

How you'll be assessed

Two thirds of the course is pure, with the remaining third made up of statistics and mechanics. The course is assessed by examinations taken in the summer of Year 13.
