Going forward with the A Level Course (Edexcel), we aim to enhance students’ linguistic skills and promote and develop their capacity for critical thinking based on their knowledge and understanding of the language, culture and society of the country or countries where French is spoken. The French A-level course offers well-balanced and inspiring content that includes cultural topics, literature, film study, and mastering of language manipulation. This course is open to pupils with varied linguistic backgrounds, from second-language learners to native speakers. Level groups are usually small enough to offer individualised support. This class is supported by a French language assistant who offers conversation sessions.
We welcome external candidates to the Sixth Form, who are assessed on the basis of reports from their existing schools, written tests, interviews and GCSE predictions. We strongly recommend that all girls have achieved at least grade 7s (A grades) in their chosen A level subjects, as those with lower grades are likely to find the Sixth Form course challenging. Both internal and external candidates may compete for Academic Sixth Form Scholarships. These examinations take place in November each year. Scholarships are also awarded for Art, Drama and Music.
