Course summary

The Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity is worth UCAS points equivalent to one A level. Over the two years there are 3 compulsory units: Unit 1: Body systems and the effects of physical activity Unit 2: Sports coaching and activity leadership Unit 3: Sports organisation and development and two chosen optional units: Unit 8: Organisation of sports events Unit 19: Sport and exercise psychology

Entry requirements

Pupils normally need a minimum of 6 GCSE passes with at least a grade B in the subjects they choose to study at A Level or for the IB Diploma.

How you'll be assessed

The course is made up of two externally assessed units (unit 1 and unit 3) with students sitting an examination at the end of their first year and in January of their second year. This leaves scope for any resit examinations at the end of their second year. The remainder of the work is assessed through a portfolio. Students will collect evidence, documenting their learning of key principles of sport and physical activity. This includes the videoing of practical sessions; demonstrating capabilities in different roles.
