Course summary

- To promote understanding of environmental processes from local to global - To provide a body of knowledge, methodologies and skills that can be used in the analysis of environmental issues at local and global levels - To recognise the extent to which technology plays a role in both causing and solving environmental problems - To appreciate the value of local and international collaboration in resolving environmental problems. - To appreciate that environmental issues may be controversial. Students will study the ecosystem, human population, resource use, conservation and biodiversity, population management, global warming and environmental value systems.

Entry requirements

All candidates seeking entry to Rossall Sixth Form will be required to pass at least five GCSE/iGCSE subjects (Grades 5-9) (or equivalent qualifications from the student’s own country) as well as provide a satisfactory report from their current school. Please note: In order to study certain subjects, candidates will need to have achieved at least a Grade 6 or 7 in that subject (or related discipline) at GCSE/iGCSE.

How you'll be assessed

External assessment consists of two written papers and provides opportunities for students to demonstrate an understanding through the application, use, synthesis, analysis and evaluation of environmental issues, information, concepts, methods, techniques and explanations. Internal assessment accounts for 20% of the final assessment and is comprised of a series of practical and fieldwork activities.
