Course summary

All IB students study some mathematics in the Sixth form at a level appropriate to their previous results and their future plans. There are four possible options: Applications & Interpretations at Higher and Standard Level, and Analysis & Approaches at Higher and Standard Level. Whichever option they opt for, students study a range of both calculator and non-calculator skills involving algebra, calculus, functions, graphs and statistics and they are introduced to a more global system of number and encouraged to reason carefully to apply their core understanding to solve problems independently. As part of the course they all do some independent research to write original assessments exploring and interpreting a branch of the subject of particular interest to them and all students are encouraged to look at mathematics beyond the classroom.
