The course looks at basic economics principles, including the theories of demand, supply, costs, inequality, national income determination, money, international trade and finance. It also considers the British economy, especially current economic affairs, focusing on such matters as inflation, privatisation, employment, growth, the European Union, government policies. The above principles will be used as analytical tools. Economics is used to answer many of the global pressing issues: How do we and should we solve climate change? How do we eradicate global poverty and hunger? Was Brexit a good idea? Should we redistribute income and wealth. Economics is often simply defined as the study of how the limited resources of our finite world are divided in order to produce the goods and services that satisfy our seemingly unlimited wants and needs. It is the study of dealing with the basic economic problem of scarcity.
For candidates taking GCSEs, offers remain conditional on achieving at least three passes of grade 7 (or A) and three passes of grade 6 (or B) in academic subjects at GCSE (or equivalent), excluding short-course GCSEs.
