Paper 1 is the options paper. Typical Worth options include ‘The Geography of Food & Health’, ‘Oceans and Coastal Margins’ and ‘Geophysical Hazards’. Paper 2 covers the core topics of populations in transition, disparities in wealth and development, patterns in environmental quality and sustainability and patterns in resource consumption. Internal assessment (coursework) entails a 2-day field trip to Oxwich Bay in South Wales to study a psammosere succession (sand dunes). HL students will answer questions on three options in Paper 1 rather than the two for SL students. Additionally, HL students will also take the extension Paper 3 covering the measurement of global interactions, the concept of a shrinking world, economic interactions and flows, environmental change and socio-cultural exchanges.
Each of the six subjects is marked out of 7 (maximum of 42 points).
