Employers seek candidates with analytical minds, logical thought processes, proven memories, cultural and intercultural awareness, communication and presentation skills and those who are team players. All these skills are developed through the study of languages. At King’s, we encourage our learners to have a broader view of the world through learning a language as we believe it creates a path of tolerance, trust and empathy with others. Pupils traditionally study Spanish, German, French, but there is also the opportunity to study Russian, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Italian and Japanese through a private weekly class. We continue to develop the languages on offer to suit the demand of study, so if a language you wish to study is not part of this list, we will gladly give you more information about the availability of exams and tuition.
To embark on A-levels or a BTEC pupils should have five grades 6 (b) in GCSE/IGCSE and at least grade 4 (OR C) in Mathematics and English in exceptional circumstances the Head Master may allow pupils to join the sixth form without achieving this hurdle as long as motivation can be guaranteed. Such an arrangement be reviewed termly. We strongly recommend pupils start A-levels having achieved a grade 7(or A) GCSE/IGCSE in each of the subjects they have chosen, or in subjects similar to those they have chosen. In addition, pupils should not start Mathematics or a Science A-level Without having achieved a grade 7(or A) in Mathematics
