Course summary

Students will gain insight into the role of a commercial designer and practical experience and understanding about material properties, technical principles and manufacturing processes. Students will be required to research and investigate a design opportunity of their choice, design and develop a range of proposals and produce a high quality practical prototype. The course will provide a good background to all those interested in engineering or designing in its widest sense.

Entry requirements

An overall average of a grade 6 at GCSE or IGCSE in all subjects is required for entry to our Sixth Form, with a minimum of a grade 7 in the subjects you wish to study at A Level (a minimum of a grade 8 in Further Maths). In addition, you will be expected to take on greater responsibility for your own independent learning as part of the transition from life at school to university and further career.
