Course summary

The start of the course is more traditional where you will learn formal elements of Photography such as composition, lighting form, cropping, and positioning, amongst others. You will also learn how to use digital manipulation to enhance an image and develop your ideas though sustained investigations to a number of outcomes. The second coursework project is more self-guided and where you will investigate an area of Photography that interests you. You will also write a 2,500 word extended essay on the theme of the project you have chosen. The final exam is based on a topic given by the exam board in January of the final year.

Entry requirements

Assessment is by examination and interview. At registration girls nominate their likely choice of subjects for Sixth Form study and on the Assessment Day will sit three subject specific tests, each of approximately 30 minutes duration, plus an online general paper lasting 90 minutes which gives an indication of IQ and academic potential. Successful candidates are interviewed in person or by Zoom by subject teachers and senior staff. Girls should have a minimum of six GCSEs at Grade 6 and above, including Maths and English. Grade 7 is preferable in subjects chosen for A Level study.

How you'll be assessed

60% Personal Investigation: Practical work and a personal study: a written essay of 2000-3000 words. 40% Externally Set Assignment: assessed as an independent unit: 15 hour examination.
