Why study A Level Physical Education? Studying A Level PE will provide students with a wealth of opportunities in terms of learning, experience, career pathways and enrichment. It is an exciting, interesting and varied course that combines both theoretical and practical elements. The theory modules are wide ranging and cover a variety of biological, anatomical, psychological and societal aspects of sport. The coursework and practical assessment provides students with the opportunity to critically analyse their own practical performance in a sport/activity of their choice in the role of player/performer or coach. A Level PE opens many doors and closes none! What will I be studying ? • Anatomy and physiology: You will develop your knowledge of how the body functions before, during and after exercise. • Biomechanical movement: This module explores exactly how movement is caused during physical activities. • Exercise physiology: You will learn how the body adapts to exercise. • Skill acquisition: This module looks at how skill is acquired and the impact of psychological factors on performances. • Sport psychology: You will explore the impacts on performance of a number of psychological factors. • Sport, society and technology: This module gives you a really interesting insight into the development of sport from all angles. How will I be studying? Most lessons are classroom based, but the subject content often lends itself very well to active, interactive learning. Students may also have opportunities to have conversations with current sports performers via video links in order to apply their learning to real-life scenarios. Reinforcing subject content through the use of exam questions is something that we do regularly. Some of the course will involve you independently collecting video evidence of your own sporting performance, and producing coursework that draws together many aspects of your learning in a performance context. How will A Level Physical Education help me in the future? Past students have gone onto to study a broad range of subjects at university, including physiotherapy, sports science, psychology, education, criminology and occupational therapy. Other areas it can link into include coaching, sports nutrition, sports media/ journalism and sports marketing, development and analysis. Studying A Level PE will also provide you with a wealth of transferable skills including: - Independent study skills - Presentation and group work skills - Critical, analytical thinking and writing skills - The ability to write extended answers and coursework, using theoretical evidence to back up your arguments.
