We follow the AQA syllabus, which is examined by three written papers at the end of Year 13. The course is designed to give an introduction to the wide variety of topics within Psychology. Psychology classes often involve lively discussion and debate, with girls learning to hone their skills in presenting and critical analysis. Year 12: • Memory • Attachment • Social Influence • Psychopathology • Research Methods • Biopsychology • Approaches to Psychology Year 13: In the second year of the course, girls will continue to widen their understanding of research methods, learn about the significant issues and debates within Psychology, and study a series of modules which may include Cognition and Development, Stress and Addiction.
All students wishing to study in the Sixth Form at St Catherine’s are expected to have achieved six GCSEs at grades 6-9, including a grade 4 in Maths and English. They generally gain a grade 7 in the subjects they wish to study at A Level; however, if a student is close to this level and shows aptitude and willingness in other ways, entry can be discussed with the Headmistress.
