Course summary

The Extended Project Qualification is your opportunity to develop, extend and stretch yourself; to choose an area you are really interested in and to spend time exploring it. As well as being an extra qualification that will provide evidence of your commitment to a subject or topic and your ability to work independently, it is an amazing opportunity to take yourself on a journey of enquiry. This is one of the few opportunities you have at school to spend time exploring your interests in depth and to follow them where they lead. At the very least you will learn valuable research skills that will help you at university and beyond. At best, an Extended Project Qualification can be a revealing journey of selfdiscovery that may be the start of a life-long enquiry journey, and the beginning of a deeper relationship with a particular subject or topic.

Entry requirements

How you'll be assessed

The Extended Project Qualification consists of a project that involves around 120 learning hours, 90 of which are carried out independently by the student, and 30 hours of Taught Skills which are delivered in lessons. AQA specify that students should produce either a 5000 word written report or an artefact supplemented by a minimum 1000 written report. In addition to this, students are required to keep a record of their project’s progress by completing a ‘Production Log’, as well as delivering a final presentation of their work and findings to a nonspecialist audience. The Production Log, 5000 word report, or minimum 1000 word report and artefact, and the Presentation are marked holistically at the end of the year.
