History explains the world around us today. Its study offers a unique opportunity to research past societies and cultures in depth, while at the same time allowing you to make sense of current global dynamics and events. In our information-drenched age the critical thinking and willingness to challenge and question at the heart of the subject are in short supply. For this reason History provides ideal training for a wide range of careers, in particular the law and journalism. An understanding and awareness of history is vital for making sense of the present, and indeed the future, of our world.
It is highly desirable that Sixth Form History students have at least grade 6 (B) in GCSE History. At least grade 6 (B) in English is essential. Entry is dependent upon performance in the interview and a satisfactory reference, including GCSE/IGSCE predicted grades where relevant. Candidates will also be required to sit a computer based verbal and non-verbal reasoning assessment. For candidates outside of the UK we may also require the Ukiset test to be sat prior to interview.
