Course summary

During your Chemistry A-level, you will build on some work from GCSE in more depth, as well as cover some new topics. These include: • Atomic structure • Bonding • Periodicity • Reaction kinetics • Equilibria • Organic chemistry Practical skills are integrated into lessons throughout the year with these being examined in the final examinations, and these skills will be endorsed in the new certification process at A-level. The Chemistry department at Sheffield Girls’ is a fantastic environment in which to learn. We value practical work and demonstrations as we view Chemistry as an experimental science. It’s essential that students can get hands-on with learning to ground their knowledge and achieve fantastic results while enjoying their A-level. Lessons are designed to stimulate curiosity while learning new methods of enquiry. The content is designed to thoroughly prepare students for examinations both practical and written. We aim to give our Sixth Form students a thorough grounding in the principles and applications of Chemistry and to make them aware that these applications can be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual, the community and the environment.
