The relevance of Psychology in every day life is becoming ever-more apparent. In the real world, Psychology is used to interpret and understand the decision making of humans in the context of everyday life, the courts, crime, sport and government to name but a few. An understanding of our own and other people’s psychological needs allows for our personal progression and to cope with the stresses of twenty-first century living. The subject is responsible for countless ‘eureka’ moments, where students discover the reasons behind their own behaviour and that of others, giving more context for the world around us.
Entry requirements will be considered on an individual basis. Students do not have to have studied Psychology at GCSE in order to study Psychology at A Level. They do need, however, to be able to use basic numeracy skills and a calculator, and it is essential that they are able to construct a coherent written argument. Emphasis is placed on encouraging students to develop their ability to recognise, define, analyse and evaluate problems.
